This Mother’s Day, MIDORI wants to thank all of the wonderful mothers that work so hard to create and mold this wonderful world we live in. Mother’s Day is a very special holiday to us, as MIDORI is a family business! Midori, who started the company, sold it to her daughter Aya two years ago, and Aya also recently became a mother. We are very lucky to have three generations of inspirational women (and two generations of moms!) in our family here at MIDORI.

To all of the moms out there, you inspire us on a daily basis! We hope your Mother’s Day is wonderful, and you’re treated like the queens you are.

Cinco de Mayo is this Saturday, and we’re starting the celebration a little early! All Mexicans and Americans celebrate this day with food, drinks and dance, but there’s a great history behind the day, as well. Click the jump for more information, as well as some photos of Cinco de Mayo celebrations!

5 De Mayo, or “El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla,” celebrates “The Day of the Battle of Puebla.” Cinco de Mayo is day the Mexican army fought the French in Puebla. It was an unlikely victory, but lead them to independence for them on September 16. Now the day is known for big sombreros, lively music and drinking margaritas in celebration of this victory. Women and girls in Mexico that participate in the celebration and dance wear brightly-colored dresses and braid their hair together with (our favorite!) ribbon.

Welcome the Newest Member of the MIDORI Family!

We proud to announce a new, and very special, member of the MIDORI Family! Little Misa was born to Aya and Trevor, our President and CEO, on April 19th at 3:33 PM! Misa is already a star and a great inspiration for our team, and we are so excited to welcome her as the newest addition to the MIDORI Family!

For a special little DIY to welcome Misa (courtesy of the Santa Barbara Wedding Style blog), please follow the jump!

Step 1: Draw a spiral on a 6×6″ square piece of MIDORI Gift Wrap.

Step 2: Cut spiral out of paper.

Step 3: Starting from the outside, roll the paper in until you reach the center of the spiral. When you release the coil the paper will spring back a bit. Dab a dot of glue at the bottom to the shape. You can use a twig as a firm stem, make a small hole in the bottom of the flower base and add another dab of glue to hold the twig in place.

4. Repeat to create as many flowers as you would like in your bouquet.

Wednesday Inspiration – Oversized Ribbon Bow

We love this oversized ribbon bow we saw in an editorial this week. It’s very simple to make, too! Just use MIDORI ribbon (we recommend Luxe or 4″ Original Double Faced Satin) and tie into a large bow. Next, hot glue the bow onto a clip or a headband, and viola! Oversized hair bow of your very own.

Inspiration Friday – Romantic Royalty

This week, we have been really taken by the below editorial image. It’s such a soft, romantic photograph, and since MIDORI has been placing quite a bit of internal focus on bridal lately, this image has been a great inspiration for us as we create. The crown and tulle cape are perfect for a shabby-chic fall wedding, and the model’s makeup and hair are the perfect combination of striking and subtle.
